The TRUTH about fast weightloss
I’m really disappointed today… people just DO NOT LEARN!!! A friend of mine announced yesterday that she is going to start doing the Kimkins Diet to get undo the damage done in her weekend weight gain.
The Kimkins diet is based on the theory of Ketosis. She has an induction period that puts your body into Ketosis. When in Ketosis you lose your appetite, thus the low calorie intake. It is somewhat like Dr. Stillman’s induction minus the cheese and she allows a little oil for cooking. Then Phase 2 is Kimkins which is with the 2 cups of salad and .5 of veggies but only those on the list, or 3 cups of salad greens. She does not allow net carb counting and no processed Low Carb foods. She recommends no exercise & does not promote drinking water either.

I understand that my friend wants a drastic change, but come on!!!!!!!!!!!! Less than 1000 calories a day (view the creator’s fitday eating plan) !!! I can’t believe the “advice” that this girl Kimmers is giving…

Not at all. Look at people with gastric bypass surgery (400-500 calories), Stillmans (600-750 calories) or the water fasters (0 calories) … all lose 1 pound a day or more.
Your carbs are very, very low (and calories too), so you’re do for a “whoosh” by tomorrow morning. Once it starts, it’s like a domino effect and gets bigger, faster … you’ll see.
==================
Uh… yeah… your gonna lose weight, but you should also kiss your lean muscle buh-bye if you’re going to be eating low calories.
What happens after the “diet”? What happens when you reach your goal? Are you going to go back to your conventional way of eating?
Sad, Sad, Sad…
OK, I guess that’s enough.
End of rant.
I also found this interesting article written by Tom Venuto about the consequences of fast weight-loss.
Enjoy the article!

Here is an excerpt:
…The faster you lose weight, the more muscle you will lose right along with the fat, and that can really mess up your metabolism.
An even bigger problem with fast weight loss is that it just won’t last. The faster you lose, the more likely you are to gain it back. It’s the the “yo-yo diet effect” - weight goes down, but always comes back up.
Don’t Be Fooled By Water Weight Losses
One thing you should also know is that it’s very common to lose 3 - 5 pounds in the first week on nearly any diet and exercise program and often even more on low carb diets (because low carb diets deplete glycogen and every gram of glycogen holds 3 grams of water). Just remember, its NOT all fat - WATER LOSS IS NOT FAT LOSS - AND WATER LOSS IS TEMPORARY!

Hey Vlima, I totally respect your opinion, however I’d think you’d know me to be smarter than to just take 100% of what anyone says. I am doing very well. I’ve lost 10.5lbs so far and gone from 29%bf to 27% bf with no muslce loss! Obiviously I don’t agree with most of what Kimmer says, it’s simply a case of eating the meat and spitting out the bones, utilizing what makes sense and throwing out the rest. I feel wonderful, ave tons of energy, I’m dropping pounds and inces like crazy especially my belly fat (which you know is the worst and most dangerous of all places to store fat) and my workouts have actually improved!
I did P90X back and biceps yesterday and oh my gosh! I got the most imcredible pump ever! I was grunting and groaning and covered in sweat….SEXXXAAAAH ROFL! It was great. I’m sore as I don’t know what today though! He has a LOT of reps in the bicep portion. I’ve never worked my biceps like that before lol.
Anyway, I totally appreciate your concern, but give me a little more credit…I’m a smart cookie!;)
Blessings,
Kassandra

Yes Kass… I know your a smart one — I just hope you know what you’re doing because very low calories can really back fire on you. There are better Ketogenic Diets out there (higher calories) like the Get Shredded Diet & the Velocity diet that will probably give you the same results or better without slowing down your metabolism.
Love ya girl & I wish you much success!
Also, this post was written before I had a chance to PM you with my thoughts — and you know what they are. Since writing this post, i’ve been researching alot on Ketogenic type diets & their pros & cons and have come to the conclusion that most are safe for a short period. Since you are only doing this for 6-8 weeks, then you should be ok, but I still think you need to eat more.

Oh 900 is nothing, trust me, they get much lower then 900 calories. For example, they have a boot camp where you are limited to 500 calories a day with a minimum 30 mins of intense cardio. I’m sure you would appreciate how bad a combo that is!
But they get even lower again, water fasting and daily laxative use is also encouraged.
I don’t know how much your into low carb per se, but low carb diets in the real sense are not bad, kimkins I don’t even consider a low carb diet, I prefer to think of it as a VLCD.

Thanks for posting your thoughts Sherrie. Low carbs diets are good if used wisely. The reason I think most people fail at them is because they don’t do their research and can’t transition safely off of them.

[...] When Jimmy Moore pulled his affiliation and posted his apology to the low carb world, I knew it was time for a serious personal reality check. There are many bloggers who have explained just why Kimkins is such a dangerous dietary plan. I won’t attempt to explain the medicine and science of it here. Suffice it to give you some important links: VP Health & Fitness [...]
