Giving it one last push!

September 12, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Personal Challenges, They Did It!!!, Turbulence Training No Comments →

I just spent 5 minutes getting totally INSPIRED by the finalists of Craig Ballantyne’s latest Turbulence Training Transformation Contest.  I mean, I feel like these success stories have removed EVERY excuse I could possibly come up with. It’s amazing what these guys and gals accomplished in just 12 weeks.

You can check out their stories HERE !

Well, Craig Ballantyne is at it AGAIN! I wasn’t going to annouce this, but I am seriously contemplating on entering the 3rd Turbulence Training Transformation Contest.  This contest has been going on since August 31st and it ends December 14, 2008.  This coming Monday, Sept. 15th is the last day to enter.

So…. anyone want to join me?  Just think, 12 weeks from now we can have brand new spankin’ bodies and have a head-start in creating or building on healthy habits before 2009 rolls around.   My birthday is on December 12th and I’m thinking that it could be a nice little birthday present to myself.  $2,000 is a GREAT motivator!!!

You can find out all of the details on entering the free contest HERE .

To your health!

8/20/2008 - A little bit of everything

August 20, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal, Motivation, They Did It!!! 1 Comment →

So, lots and lots to talk about.

First, it is important to tell you all about my state of mind right now.  I am watching the Olympics, which I just LOVE!  I’ve been going through late nights, early mornings, and lack of sleep but i’m still hanging in there and enjoying every single moment of these awesome games.  Being home is a big blessing so I am so thankful for this opportunity that God has given me and will squeeze out every single thing I can from it since I will probably have to start looking for a job in a couple of weeks.  Also, the US Open (tennis) is around the corner, football season is starting, which makes me so excited there are no words to really describe it!   Hmmm… how about ecstatic!

Then, I have been listening to a lot of really good music that always stirs things up in me that almost nothing else can.  Kirk Franklin, Mat Kearney, Addison Road, Daniel Kirkley, David Crowder, Jeremy Camp among other artists.  These songs remind me so much about who I am and who I want to be, what I want to do, where I want to go in life and that God is always in control.

I still have not registered for school and it starts next week.  After crunching budget numbers, I realize that I will need to get a part time job so I can pay for school because I don’t want to add any more debt to our already large “baggage” that we have - almost $53,484.66 to be exact and includes student loans, car loan & personal debt. Ouch.  That number hurts, but we all have to start somewhere, right?  It’s scary to think that we had about $65,000 in debt about two years ago, so I AM happy to say that we have already paid down about $11,500 in the past 2 yrs.

Despite all this, and despite facing the unknown, I am learning to trust God every day and not worry about what tomorrow or what the future will bring as I know that He has everything under control — even when things do not particularly make sense or go the way I want or plan them to go.

Moving on to the fitness front… things are going well.  I think that I am FINALLY making this more of lifestyle than and temporary thing.  Exercise has become a daily routine and I can’t imagine life without it.  I think I am on track to lose another 8-10 lbs this month but we will see this upcoming weekend when I take my monthly measurements & stats.

One lesson that the Olympics has taught me is that you are never old enough and it’s never too late to start building your best body.  Just take a look at Dara Torres, my new hero.  This lady is just AWESOME! Being 41 years of age, she enters the 2008 Olympics, beats her personal record set when she was a teenager, and smashes the American world record.

Dara Torres, taking the plunge at 41

There is NO excuse people… we CAN do this.  I for one am no longer afraid of being a mother in my thirties.  I know that it can be done and if I put my mind to it and work really hard, I can train this body to be the best that it can be so that I can be a fit and healthy mommy!

And to end it on a HIGH note… I want you leave you with this nice and simple quote from my new hero:

Don’t put an age limit on your DREAMS.”

~ Dara Torres, Olympic Champion

Peace, i’m OUT!

Dreams and Goals - remembering Randy Pausch

August 06, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Life, They Did It!!!, Videos 1 Comment →

I’m sure many of you have heard about Professor Pausch.  Last summer, he learned that the pancreatic cancer he was fighting had returned and spread, and that he only had months to live. A few weeks later, he delivered his “last lecture”, a talk meant to share the wisdom he’d gained during his lifetime.  Pausch’s presentation, entitled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” was a huge Internet phenomenon, and was downloaded more than 10,000,000 times. I personally have watched it about 3 times in it’s entirety. It had a profound impact on me and helped me go back and think about every single dream and goal I had as I was young. It’s inspiring on so many levels.

Randy Pausch died on July 25, 2008 at age 47. Here is the complete video of his last lecture:

I for one have started pursuing a lot of my goals and dreams that I had given up on.

I am playing basketball again and will soon start competing this coming September (maybe even some college ball???).  I have registered to start taking classes again so I can finish my degree.  And this one is WAY out there, but I thought about it as a kid and was really reminded of it while watching the finale of American Gladiators this past Monday… I want to compete against those people!!!

So… I would really like to read about some of your dreams and goals that you have set for your self.   Any fitness goals for the last few months of this year?  Mine is to be at my ideal weight for my upcoming 29th b-day in December.  I am SO determined to do it this time!!!!!!!

If you haven’t watched this before, I urge you to do so now. After that, be inspired and go pursue some of your dreams and goals that you have set for your self.

Blessings,

~ Vilma
