Motivational Video - no more excuses

October 24, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Motivation, Videos 2 Comments →

How many time have we said one or more of these things?

I know I have and that kind of attitude held me back from pursuing and doing many things.  There will always be something that will hold you back from starting.  I challenge you to look at your life and your situation right now, whatever it may be.  There is hope!  You CAN do this!  One step at a time is all it takes.

Start by writing down some goals.  When we fail to plan, we plan to fail.  Want to lose 10, 20, 50 pounds?  Write it down.  Do you want to lose 4 dress sizes?  Want to wear a bathing suit without a shirt or shorts over it? Write it down.  Want to graduate with your degree, start a new business, run a 5K?  Write it down! I think you get my point, right?  Write down everything that you want to accomplish.  It doesn’t matter right now if you feel it’s impossible.

Now that you have gotten these dreams and goals on paper, write out steps on how you are going to accomplish them. Remember to keep it simple and take baby steps.  You can’t lose 20 pounds in a week. But you CAN lose one.   Focus on your everyday habits. Remember, it’s about baby steps, consistency, and taking it one day at a time.  You CAN do it!  No more excuses!

Fall is here - 100 days to go

September 22, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal, Motivation 2 Comments →

Monday is the first day of Fall, my favorite time of the year!  The weather is changing, the leaves are falling & football season is upon us.  Time is also flying by and we have officially 100 days left in 2008. Where are you at with your life? Would you like to end 2008 with a bang?

I challenge you to take a look at your life today and where you want to be on Jan 1, 2009.  Wouldn’t it feel good to make a New Year’s Resolution to keep up the good habits of a healthy lifestyle rather than piling on another 100 days of poor choices?

Take a little time this evening and come up with a list of specific things you want to finish before Jan. 1st.  Print it, hang it up in front of your computer and cross off stuff in big red ink as you do them. You will feel so good about yourself and accomplish more than you would if you just keep on dreaming.

8/20/2008 - A little bit of everything

August 20, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal, Motivation, They Did It!!! 1 Comment →

So, lots and lots to talk about.

First, it is important to tell you all about my state of mind right now.  I am watching the Olympics, which I just LOVE!  I’ve been going through late nights, early mornings, and lack of sleep but i’m still hanging in there and enjoying every single moment of these awesome games.  Being home is a big blessing so I am so thankful for this opportunity that God has given me and will squeeze out every single thing I can from it since I will probably have to start looking for a job in a couple of weeks.  Also, the US Open (tennis) is around the corner, football season is starting, which makes me so excited there are no words to really describe it!   Hmmm… how about ecstatic!

Then, I have been listening to a lot of really good music that always stirs things up in me that almost nothing else can.  Kirk Franklin, Mat Kearney, Addison Road, Daniel Kirkley, David Crowder, Jeremy Camp among other artists.  These songs remind me so much about who I am and who I want to be, what I want to do, where I want to go in life and that God is always in control.

I still have not registered for school and it starts next week.  After crunching budget numbers, I realize that I will need to get a part time job so I can pay for school because I don’t want to add any more debt to our already large “baggage” that we have - almost $53,484.66 to be exact and includes student loans, car loan & personal debt. Ouch.  That number hurts, but we all have to start somewhere, right?  It’s scary to think that we had about $65,000 in debt about two years ago, so I AM happy to say that we have already paid down about $11,500 in the past 2 yrs.

Despite all this, and despite facing the unknown, I am learning to trust God every day and not worry about what tomorrow or what the future will bring as I know that He has everything under control — even when things do not particularly make sense or go the way I want or plan them to go.

Moving on to the fitness front… things are going well.  I think that I am FINALLY making this more of lifestyle than and temporary thing.  Exercise has become a daily routine and I can’t imagine life without it.  I think I am on track to lose another 8-10 lbs this month but we will see this upcoming weekend when I take my monthly measurements & stats.

One lesson that the Olympics has taught me is that you are never old enough and it’s never too late to start building your best body.  Just take a look at Dara Torres, my new hero.  This lady is just AWESOME! Being 41 years of age, she enters the 2008 Olympics, beats her personal record set when she was a teenager, and smashes the American world record.

Dara Torres, taking the plunge at 41

There is NO excuse people… we CAN do this.  I for one am no longer afraid of being a mother in my thirties.  I know that it can be done and if I put my mind to it and work really hard, I can train this body to be the best that it can be so that I can be a fit and healthy mommy!

And to end it on a HIGH note… I want you leave you with this nice and simple quote from my new hero:

Don’t put an age limit on your DREAMS.”

~ Dara Torres, Olympic Champion

Peace, i’m OUT!

Sparkpeople - If you forgot to brush your teeth last night…

If you forgot to brush your teeth last night…

If you forgot to brush your teeth last night, did you decide this morning to throw in the towel and never brush your teeth again? Since you’re obviously a slob who doesn’t have enough self- discipline to remember to brush your teeth, why bother brushing them at all if you forgot to last night?

Of course not.

So if you had ice cream for dinner last night, or didn’t exercise yesterday, or gained a pound this week, don’t throw in the towel! Make a healthier choice for dinner tonight by eating something lean. Go for a short walk. Weigh in again next week.

Just do NOT give up.
