If you forgot to brush your teeth last night…

If you forgot to brush your teeth last night, did you decide this morning to throw in the towel and never brush your teeth again? Since you’re obviously a slob who doesn’t have enough self- discipline to remember to brush your teeth, why bother brushing them at all if you forgot to last night?

Of course not.

So if you had ice cream for dinner last night, or didn’t exercise yesterday, or gained a pound this week, don’t throw in the towel! Make a healthier choice for dinner tonight by eating something lean. Go for a short walk. Weigh in again next week.

Just do NOT give up.

Where in the WORLD…

June 06, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal, Exercise and Fitness, Personal Finance, Videos 6 Comments →

question-mark.jpgIs VILMA PEREZ!!!!!!!!???????

I must apologize because I’ve neglected to update on how life has been with me.  I’m still working my 8-5 job and have not had one single day off in 5 months!  That’s a RECORD!

I’m happy to say that my job is less hectic now and I am finally used to almost everything that goes on in that office.  In turn, my eating habits have been crazy (kinda like my weight)  and I have been struggling to consistently eat healthy.  I have my good days & my bad days - today in particular was a bad one.

On a happier note, my wonderful husband got a huge promotion & raise at his job!!!  God has truly blessed us & we are so thankful.  We’ve already decided that we are going to ATTACK our debt head on!  We’ve been following a modified version of Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey  for some now… and we will continue to follow it and just increase our contributions.  I’ve also been working on a spreadsheet that outlines all our debt and I gotta tell you that it was an EYE OPENER!  We are planning to purchase our 1st home with in the next 2 years but before that can happen, we would like to reduce our debt by about 75% or so.  I think the plan that we came up with will allow us to do this without depriving ourselves & I will dedicate an entire post to this a little bit later on this month.

Let’s see… what else.

I’m sure many of you can relate to me on this one; I’m an Infomercial Junky!  With that being said, I’m so exited to say that Beachbody has come out with a new and brilliant series of workouts by Mr. Tony Horton.  It is called 10 minute trainer, and I WANT TO BUY IT!!!!

It reminds me a lot of Turbulence TrainingFit Yummy Mummy in that it has short burst exercises and super sets & looks very intense!  Check out this YouTube video to see the results that some people were able to achieve.

video

There is NO excuse now!  Whether we use 10 minute trainer, Turbulence Training or Fit Yummy Mummy… WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Peace,

~ Vilma

Happy New Year - new challenges

January 01, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Exercise and Fitness No Comments →

Happy New Year everyone!  First off, I just want to wish everyone the most success & happiness in every area of your life this year.  2007 is in the past and all we can do now is learn from our triumphs & mistakes, set new goals & keep on going strong.  I am reminded of a song by Switchfoot that I was hearing ealier this morning & the lyrics really hit close to home:

Yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
Yesterday is a promise that you’ve broken
Don’t close your eyes, don’t close your eyes
This is your life and today is all you’ve got now
Yeah, and today is all you’ll ever have
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be…

So, with that said… let’s focus on ourselves this year.  Whether you have 5 lbs to lose or 60+ like me… we can do this!

To motivate you a bit more I have a couple of fresh weightloss challenges that you can choose to enter to get you started off in the right direction.

#1 . The 2008 National Body Challenge -

  • And much more!

#2.  Turbulence Training 12 week Transformation Contest -

This Challenge will be running from Nov. 36 2007 to April 15, 2008.  The last day that you can get started on this is Therefore, you could start as soon as today (which I hope you do!) or as late as January 21st…

The thing that I really like about this particular contest is that unlike the yearly Body For Life contest which has like more than a gazillion people doing it- by entering the Turbulence Training Transformation, you have a much better chance of actually winning something because you will probably be going up against just a couple hundred people.

Grand Prize - $2000 & a 3-year Platinum TT Membership

Second Place - $1000 & a 2-year Platinum TT Membership

Third Place - $500 & a 1-Year Platinum TT Membership

#3.  You Tube Weight Loss Challenge -

Will begin in February 2008.

There is really no catch, just check out the group details at www.youtube.com/group/weightlosschallenge.

Winners are based on the number of views and ratings, so it doesn’t matter if you are having a hard time losing weight, you can still win!

For more details, email videochallenge@diet.com. They can walk you through the whole process.

#4.  Oprah & Bod Green’s 2008 weightloss challenge -

The Challenge is based on Bob Greene’s weight-loss philosophy of making small, gradual changes that will add up to big results. He also asks you to examine your relationship with food, and recognize the reasons behind misusing it. Bob will guide you through these changes and this period of self-discovery by giving you specific goals to follow, such as stopping eating two hours before bedtime or working in more minutes of physical activity each week. Each of these goals will help you take off a few more pounds, so that by the end of the year, you’ll be slimmer and healthier. But more importantly, you’ll have learned to eat, exercise and even think like a thinner person.

#5.  Phit-n-Phat Blast the Fat 12 week Challenge

The PNP community has become one of my favorite sites to visit & Corinne is having a special challenge that will be starting up on January 14th.  The only requirements to participating or winning this challenge are:

  1. You have to be a member of PNP. Here is Application to Join PNP!
  2. Submit your starting weight, measurements, and pictures to Corinne.
  3. Keep a journal in the challenge forum. You do not have to complete a certain amount of journals but you will use this forum to record your workouts, what you eat, and your successes/struggles.

The winner of this challenge will be selected by PNP voters & will receive a basket filled with some of the PNP favorites and a 20 minute phone call with Corinne to discuss the next training cycle.

And that’s pretty much it.  You have do have to follow one of her various workout schedules (IMHO they are awesome & similar to Turbulence Training Workouts)

By being accepted into PNP you will also get your hands on a whole bunch of other resources including her famous Work Your Butt Off Book filled with various cardio & HIIT training routines, Getting fat the Healthy way & the Exercise Bible, plus additional Fat Blasting Schedules & full access to regularly moderated content & forums.

So… there you have it folks… take advantage of these challenges or make your own with your friends & family.

A letter from your belly fat

December 18, 2007 By: Vilma Perez Category: **FEATURED Posts**, Exercise and Fitness, Turbulence Training 1 Comment →

Just in time for the new year & the Turbulence Training Transformation Challenge.

I’m sure this is how my belly fat will be feeling once I start my TT workouts again.

Enjoy! :D

A Letter from Your Belly Fat
By: Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS

Dear Friend,

This is a letter from your ol’ pal, belly fat. We had a great run this year, didn’t we? Lots of good times, great food, and plain ol’ sitting around eating too much.

Well, I’m thinking about sticking around another year if you don’t mind. But you might need to get a bigger pair of pants, as I was thinking about expanding my place down here.

So do me a favor, avoid that interval training you were thinking of doing. The last time you did that stuff, I nearly had to look for a new place to live. I felt like the Wicked Witch of the West in the land of Oz. Did you hear me yelling, “Help me, I’m melting!”?

Instead, stick to that slow cardio stuff. Sure I get a little sweaty, and the ol’ brain up there thinks it’s doing “a real fat burning workout”, but it’s never enough to melt me outta here.

Another thing, keep listening to those experts who say strength training doesn’t burn body fat. Since research shows they’re wrong, if you added strength training to your program, you’d practically need to throw me a going away party!

After each one of those superset workouts you tried last January it felt like someone lit a match under our collective butt. I was burning up down here!

But boy oh boy, I sure was glad you gave that up and went back to just lifting utensils and not dumbells. Otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to celebrate another summer together this year.

Sometimes I wonder, what did you ever do in college without me, your trusted belly fat? Back then, you were probably one of those people that couldn’t wait to get to the beach to show off your body, not like these days.

Nope, stay in the shade and keep the cover-up clothes on, that’s the way to go now. Besides, its a lot closer to the cold beer and the BBQ when you’re sitting in the shade avoiding all the fun down on the beach.

Well, it sure was good catching up with you. I’m sure we’ll be in touch more often, as long as you stay away from that Turbulence Training workout routine.

Brings a tear to my eye whenever I even think about that workout program and all the belly fat it’s burned. Heck, it’s fried more belly fat than a frying pan!

So again, if you want to keep your dear old belly around for another year and another summer, don’t use Turbulence Training - otherwise, its all over pal, and you’ll never see me again.

Belly Fat says, “Don’t use this” ==> http://www.turbulencetraining.com

Your friend and spare tire,

Belly Fat

PS - Seriously, don’t go near that Turbulence Training program unless you want to see me, Thunder Thighs, Manboobs, Jigg Lee Arm Fat, and Luv Handles pack our bags and hit the highway.

It will be a sad farewell, and you’d be stuck with ripped abs, gorgeous glutes, and toned arms, and you know how much attention those guys get from the opposite sex. Who needs it, I say.

December 16, 2007 By: Vilma Perez Category: Deals & Steals, Exercise and Fitness 2 Comments →

Walk an extra mile by wearing a pedometer

December 11, 2007 By: Vilma Perez Category: Exercise and Fitness 5 Comments →

Via MSNBC Fitness

According to various studies done in United States and Canada and half a dozen from Japan, Europe and Australia there is a little $20 gadget that can help you stay in shape, help you walk an extra mile each day,  and even aid you in losing weight.

The catch? You have to log your steps. That seems pretty easy.

Pedometers, also called step counters, clip to a belt or waistband and count the steps the wearer takes during the day. They range in price from $5 to all the way up to $60, with simple yet reliable models costing around $20.

The analysis found that increasing physical activity depended on setting a goal and keeping a diary of the number of steps walked each day.  “Every night, you write down how many steps you walked that day” says Dr. Dena Bravata of Stanford University. “By flipping back through your diary, you’re able to see various patterns.”

According to shapeup.org, there are now some studies suggesting that walking 10,000 steps a day is the right ball park to be in.  10, 000 steps is approximately 5 miles or so depending on the legth of your stride.

So… it looks like I will be dusting off my old yellow pedometer and tracking my steps again.  I will start logging my steps just using a paper pad & pen for now.  Nice & simple.

Here are other sites & articles that will give you various ideas on how you can increase your steps & activity each day.
