7/29/2008 - morning window shopping and migas

July 29, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal, Pictures, Recipes 3 Comments →

I figured I’d catch up on my blogging since my car is in the shop right now and I have no way of transporting myself to the gym unless I want to walk 5 miles!!!  No thank you, i’ll pass…  I will just have to schedule some time tonight to go.

So, I took an early morning walk this morning right after I dropped off the Cobalt for service at 7 am.  I had to go to Office Depot to pick up a label maker so I can work on #17 of my 101 in 1001 project ( I will have a post and pictures about this when I get it done).  I live about 1 mile away from one of our shopping centers here in El Paso (Bassett Place) and Office Depot is right next to it, so I figured that I would get a little morning workout in and kill two birds with one stone.

BTW, I do not think I have mentioned this to my online friends but I am no longer working at my job.  There comes a time when you just have to let things go and this job was doing more harm than good on so many levels, so I am HAPPY to say that I am moving on and up… (more on this later).  Don’t get me wrong… I learned many many things while I was there and met some pretty incredible people but I firmly believe that there is a purpose for everything that we go through and and time for everything… and well, it was time to move on.  The reason I mention this is because if I were working, I would not be typing up this blog right now!  You know, in case you were wondering were the HECK I get the time to all these things! :D

Ok… back to my eventlful morning!

What I didn’t remember is that Bassett Place opens their doors to walkers and people that want to exercise and walk at 7 am in the morning!  So, I got my morning walk in which included free music, refrigirated air, and window shopping!  And on top of that I was fully expecting to dish out $30 on a cool label maker and what do you know…. it was on SALE for $9.99!!!! My day is just getting better!!!!!! I even took a couple of pictures to share with you all….

Well, I get home at about 8:15 am and by now I am STARVING so I decide to whip up some migas.  For those of you that don’t know what migas are, Wikipedia explains it very very well!  I first got exposed to this delicious dish about 10 years ago down in McAllen, Texas when I was visiting a friend and his family.  THANK YOU Mrs. Murillo… this is my favorite breakfast dish by far!!!!

So, here is my version of this delicious dish:

1 portion of turkey sausage

1 serving of mixed bell peppers

1 TBSP of fine chopped red onion

1 white corn tortilla

4 egg whites

1 egg

Cilantro Salsa

Cook and mix together and VAUALAH!!!!!!  400 calories of healthy yummyness to start my day!

So, there you go!

Peace,

~ Vilma

7/24/08 - VBS, basketball & soreness

July 24, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal 1 Comment →

Hello!  I hope everyone is well today.  I myself have been doing pretty good.  This week has been crazy busy because we are having VBS at our church.  For the past 7 years i’ve always been “coach” and in charge of the games.  However, this year I decided that I wanted to do something different.  So… I am the official “photographer”.   Awesome! I’ve always liked to take pictures and capture those special moments that people have. We’ve been learning that Jesus give us the power to… be thankful, help others, be brave, live forever, and to tell others about God.

Here is a slide show of this years Power Lab VBS.  It’s been sooo much fun!

On another note, I am still playing b-ball every day for about 1 hour.  My shot is improving every time and I am happy to say that I have won my 1st pick up game!  My endurance on the court has also improved significantly and my resting heart rate has gone down by 35 points.  I am also training for my 1st 5K using the Couch to 5K running plan.  Weights are coming around slowly.  I am currently doing the original Turbulence Training 12 week program which includes a lot of body weight exercises as well as lifting heavy with fewer reps.  Hence the ’soreness’ in my title.  I am SORE!! Ouch.  I like it though because I know that my body is healing itself and going through positive changes.

Food choices have been better although not perfect.  But then again I am not perfect so I will just have to try my best every day to make the best eating choices for my body.  Weight scale has not changed much but I do feel that my clothes are a lot looser so I am defenitely losing inches.   I will taking my stats & measurements this weekend and post them here to let you know how i’m doing.

Be blessed today!

7/17/2008 - Call me Ms. B

July 17, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal 3 Comments →

Ms. Basketball that is!

So, I finally got to play a 1 on 1 basketball game yesterday. I don’t even remember how long it’s been, maybe years.  It was against this really tall giant guy (about 6′3″) so I had my work cut out for me.  Enrique, if you are reading this… thank you for your time kind sir! :)

Well, I have good news & bad news.  Which one should I tell you 1st? Hmmmm…. let’s start with the bad news.

I lost.

The good news is that I lost by 1 point and I still have my shot!

:-)  I still have a LONG ways to go until I’m in enough shape that I can last an entire game but that will come with time.  I burned a total of 1200 something calories in just 45 minutes, so I know that I was working it! I’m just happy that I have something that I enjoy doing enough to where I feel that it’s not work, you know?

I definitely need to start hitting the weights consistantly though.  They will help me in my strength & overall body composition.  Right now i’ve just been Mrs. running lady in the mornings & a Mrs. basketball lady in the evenings.  I will probably have to drop the running in the mornings and just lift weights and do a short HIIT sesssion and reserve b-ball for the evenings.

There is a womans’ b-ball league starting up in September that I want to participate in, so that will be my mini goal for now.

Let’s see how much I can do in  54 days!

Peace,

~ Vilma

Where in the WORLD…

June 06, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal, Exercise and Fitness, Personal Finance, Videos 6 Comments →

question-mark.jpgIs VILMA PEREZ!!!!!!!!???????

I must apologize because I’ve neglected to update on how life has been with me.  I’m still working my 8-5 job and have not had one single day off in 5 months!  That’s a RECORD!

I’m happy to say that my job is less hectic now and I am finally used to almost everything that goes on in that office.  In turn, my eating habits have been crazy (kinda like my weight)  and I have been struggling to consistently eat healthy.  I have my good days & my bad days - today in particular was a bad one.

On a happier note, my wonderful husband got a huge promotion & raise at his job!!!  God has truly blessed us & we are so thankful.  We’ve already decided that we are going to ATTACK our debt head on!  We’ve been following a modified version of Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey  for some now… and we will continue to follow it and just increase our contributions.  I’ve also been working on a spreadsheet that outlines all our debt and I gotta tell you that it was an EYE OPENER!  We are planning to purchase our 1st home with in the next 2 years but before that can happen, we would like to reduce our debt by about 75% or so.  I think the plan that we came up with will allow us to do this without depriving ourselves & I will dedicate an entire post to this a little bit later on this month.

Let’s see… what else.

I’m sure many of you can relate to me on this one; I’m an Infomercial Junky!  With that being said, I’m so exited to say that Beachbody has come out with a new and brilliant series of workouts by Mr. Tony Horton.  It is called 10 minute trainer, and I WANT TO BUY IT!!!!

It reminds me a lot of Turbulence TrainingFit Yummy Mummy in that it has short burst exercises and super sets & looks very intense!  Check out this YouTube video to see the results that some people were able to achieve.

There is NO excuse now!  Whether we use 10 minute trainer, Turbulence Training or Fit Yummy Mummy… WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Peace,

~ Vilma

May 2008 happenings & updates

May 02, 2008 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal, Turbulence Training 4 Comments →

So…if you haven’t already noticed, I’ve been gone a while.

Work is still busy as heck but it’s getting easier and more manageable.  I really miss blogging.  It’s what has kept me on track & connected to my fitness routine , fitness world & virtual support and friends.  In these past 3 months I have “started” my fitness routine more than 10 times but have never finished or even gotten through the 1st week!

The only person that I have to blame is myself… I’ve let my full time schedule become an excuse for not working out & choosing healthy foods.  And now… here I am half way into the year & I have not accomplished one single GOOD thing for my body!  In turn, I am the heaviest that I have EVER been & very unhappy with myself.

So, I will start once again.

That’s the beauty of this fitness journey; you can start right now…. TODAY

All the success stories that I have ever read had some kind of starting point. So why don’t we make our start today?!

So, inlight of starting over I will be entering the 2nd Turbulence Training transformation contest that started yesterday, May 1st.  I’m planning to make my ”official” start day this coming monday May 5th, but it all really depends if I can get my pictures & starting stats in on time.  If you want to join me, here are some FAQ’s that you can use:

There is no “official” sign up sheet.  All you really have to do to enter is email or post (at the TT members website) your before and after photos anytime before August 23rd, 2008 (your 12 week transformation must start between May 1st-May 31st, 2008).

You also need to own the Turbulence Training System.

You can find out more information including the offical rules & regulations HERE.

That’s all I have time for right now… I hope all of you are doing well!

Looking foward to a better, fitter & healthier 2nd part of 2008!

Blessings,

~ Vilma
