Black Friday Madness
I haven’t slept much and am running on this 5 hour energy stuff at the moment. Everyone is still sleeping and trying to recover from “Black Thursday” and Black Friday. Did you know that there was a Cyber Monday? AND I just found out that there is even a “Buy Nothing Day“!!
Whew.
My sister and I have participated in the commercialism of black friday for many many years… mostly to spend quality time together, talk & walk off the food that we stuff our faces with. This year was no different. However, I think I will probably be doing things a bit differently from now on.
Why, you may ask? Black Friday shoppers are CRAZY people! Well, most that I run into anyway.
This year we actually didn’t buy much. My sister took advantage of some really good sales to buy herself some sweaters, scarfs & cold weather gear that she will be NEEDING when she moves up to Chicago at the begining of 2009. I did end up buying a couple of things for my nieces & nephews… but stood firm and bought nothing for myself. YAY! I am sooo proud.
I’m really contemplating on doing things a bit different this year. We all know that times are bad and money is tight and it will probably not get better anytime soon. Although I have an ING savings account specifically set up for a Christmas Fund and have some pretty good chunck of change in there… I think that maybe I can do something more meaningful with that money like pay off some debt, help someone in need, or invest it.
Get Rich slowly has a interesting post on participating in the Black Friday madness, or not. It’s pretty insightful & you should check it out when ever you get a chance. And for those that are tyring to be really froogle but still want to do something special for your loved ones, I think you should check out a special site that can help you do just that.
As far as the eating goes… I did alright. I indulged a bit too much with the stuffing (which I made & was delicious…) and those crossaints were to DIE FOR! Besides that, I think I measured my self pretty well… ate good and until I was satisfied - NOT stuffed. Will probably make it out to the gym later on today to burn some calories off with some running, shooting hoops & body weight exercises. I still have not weighed myself, so I have NO idea how i’m doing in that department, but I have given away some size 12 jeans already and am finally down in the 10’s! It’s been about 2 years since i’ve been abel to experience this!
Awesome!

My wife is out shopping right now but I think she is just going to Joanne Fabrics, so hopefully the bill will be light! Congrats on eating just until satisfied - I went a little beyond, but not much and for the most part stuck to my “Black Thursday” plan.

Sounds like you did great. Hope you had a nice holiday. I don’t ever go out on Black Friday but online stores have just as good deal options so that’s perfect for me. Cyber Monday is big so I’m looking forward to that day too. Online at home in my PJ’s. Perfect.

I did a little Black Friday online shopping. That’s about it for me, mostly I ignore it… no way am I going to go out in the crowds and fight over stuff, it’s just not worth it.
Overate a bit on T-day… but I had planned Thanksgiving as a cheat day, so I think it will be OK in the end.
Congrats on the new size in jeans! I tried on a 1x swimsuit I bought a while back and wow, today I was able to wriggle into it! By the end of December when the current 2X wears out, I’m sure it will be just fine! Oh what a feeling!

Finally getting back to a lower jean size…haha funny, I never thought I’d say this, but I know what feels like! I had about 3 pairs of some nice jeans in the closet that I hadn’t worn in 2-3 years, and they were still pretty new. The jeans I had were starting to look a little baggy, so I said wth, let’s try em on, and I was pleasantly surprised. Such a great feeling huh? My next goal, down one more notch and I’ll be back at my high school size. Amazing what one can do with commitment. Congrats! I hope you continue your healthier lifestyle =)

“Black Friday shoppers are CRAZY people!”
I just read about the WalMart worker killed by stampeding Black Friday shoppers. Now that is crazy.

There was a fair amount of Black Friday activity, but it did not seem to be that different from what would have been expected. Adding the facts that gas prices were/are low, people had the recession in mind, and the Black Friday prices were ones that were more fitting for that which people had, it made sense that the millions that planned on getting purchases would be ready to put in a large amount of effort to get the items they planned to get.

I just got one of my Black Friday purchases, a flexibility workout for my TRX trainer. It arrived rather fortuitously while I was actually using my TRX for some stability push-ups… so I put it in the DVD player and did most of the workout! I have to say I was very pleased with it… and probably would not have bought if it had not been on sale!
