12/31/07 - Weekly Update

December 31, 2007 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal, Downloads No Comments →

Well… another year has come and gone.  There have been many things that I accomplished, and of course - a couple of things that I didn’t.

As some people say… I am now getting a clean slate.  A new year to start off right & make things right.  Sure, i’ll have my bad days, but I know that they’ll pale in comparision with my good days.

So… I officially have 74 lbs of fat that I would like to lose FOREVER.  According Sparkpeople, it will take me 9 months & 13 days to get there if I lose exactly 2 lbs a week.  This year I will do it differently though. I will only weigh myself once a week and I am not going to focus on what they scale spits back at me. Instead, I will focus on clothing size, body fat % & girth measurements.  In all honesty, I really don’t care how much i’ll be weighing when I am able to fit into size 4-6 jeans.

I know that I can do this, so please continue to read up on my journey because I have vowed to never give up — no matter how long it takes.

Starting Stats & Measurements will be up on Saturday as well as pictures & a possible video diary.

For now, I will leave you with Sparkpeople’s Monthly Calendar:

January: 31 Days to Unbreakable Resolutions

Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!!

December 26, 2007 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal No Comments →

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I had a great time with family & friends. I also ate many many cookies & tamales that have flared up my heart burn once again. :-(

I’m currently working on getting my strenth & eating program started again, adding starting pictures & stats & possibly video diaries a well.

This is it for me! I either lose the weight now or risk being overweight & miserable when I get pregnant and as a consequence, have a harder time to lose the baby fat therafter. I don’t want weight loss on my mind in 2009 or ever! It’s too stressing!

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.

Anyhow… That’s it for this 2007 year.  See you in 2008!

God Bless!

A New Food Guide Pyramid for Pregnancy

December 20, 2007 By: Vilma Perez Category: Nutrition, Pregnancy 3 Comments →

My #1 motivation for losing weight is to get my body prepared for pregnancy before I turn 30.  That gives me a good 7 months to lose this fat and about 6 months to enjoy the weightloss and my new body.    MyPyramid for MomsSo, being the research fanatic that I am, I’ve been reading alot on pregnancy information & happened to come across an interesting article that talks about the release of an addition to the current Food Guide Pyramid at My Pyramid for Pregnancy and Breastfeeding. This Web site is an easy way for moms who are pregnant or breastfeeding to create a personalized eating plan.  There is a lot of extensive information!

There is now new research which concludes that a mother’s diet during pregnancy may affect her child’s lifetime eating habits.   What a responsibility!  That is why I want to have my healthy habits in check before I get pregnant so I won’t have to struggle so much during and after the pregnancy.  The article goes on to say that when pregnant, your energy needs don’t even begin to increase until the second trimester.  So… you really have no excuse to gain weight your 1st trimester. No consuming extra calories because you are “eating for two”. ;-)

Another GREAT website is BabyFit, a sister company of SparkPeople.com.  At baby fit you can get: daily meal plans & shopping lists, a pregnancy fitness program, a pregnancy nutrient tracker, healthy recipes, weight tracker and much, much more!

I think these are really GREAT resources to check out if you are pregnant, condidering it, or know of someone that is already pregnant.  It’s never too late to start!

To your health,

~ Vilma

12/19/07 Daily Journal - Lessons learned from the Biggest Loser

December 19, 2007 By: Vilma Perez Category: Daily Journal, Personal 3 Comments →

  • WOW!  That’s all I can say.  Those transformations were amazing!  And here I am complaining that it’s been so hard to lose 60 lbs this past year.  I have no excuse.  I know my stuff, I have all the resources and the knowledge. All I need is the mindset.  That has been my major flaw and weakness.  As Corinee & the phit & phat crew say it… the Fat Girl Thinking.  Thinking that I am not worthy… that I am not good enough.  These contestants had 7 months to transform their bodies and put up HUGE numbers!!!  So… I know that it can be done.  The question is, do I really want it bad enough?

I was also reading a special report yesterday that  Scott Tousignant from Unstoppable Fatloss wrote which hit really close to home.  The report is a good 18 page read and it basically sums up into this:

  • STOP over complicating the fat loss process
  • STOP looking for some secret way to lose fat and begin to apply the fundamental principles of fat loss and master them.
  • STOP falling for Quick and Easy sales pitches from industry scammers
  • STOP looking for temporaty solutions and lay out a blue print for your new healthy and active lifestyle.
  • STOP applying a band-aid over the symptom of your problem. Get to the root of the problem, fix it, and build the foundation that is necessary for long term success.

Today is the time for change.  Not January 1, 2008.  TODAY I will start. Slowy, easy, and steady. My #1 reason - to be fit & ready to start a family and have the dicipline & basic fundamental principles engrained in me so much that it will so easy to bounce back post-pregnancy.

Here are my 1st six goals according to the Goal Snowball Method (in no particular order yet):

  • Get at the very least 6-7 hours of sleep
  • Wake up at the same time every day
  • Workout at least 3 times a week
  • No eating 3 hrs before going to sleep
  • Do a 30 minute morning walk every day
  • Eat portion size meals

That’s it for now.  I will add new goals as soon as I finish mastering the ones mentioned.

A letter from your belly fat

A Letter from Your Belly Fat
By: Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS

Dear Friend,

This is a letter from your ol’ pal, belly fat. We had a great run this year, didn’t we? Lots of good times, great food, and plain ol’ sitting around eating too much.

Well, I’m thinking about sticking around another year if you don’t mind. But you might need to get a bigger pair of pants, as I was thinking about expanding my place down here.

So do me a favor, avoid that interval training you were thinking of doing. The last time you did that stuff, I nearly had to look for a new place to live. I felt like the Wicked Witch of the West in the land of Oz. Did you hear me yelling, “Help me, I’m melting!”?

Instead, stick to that slow cardio stuff. Sure I get a little sweaty, and the ol’ brain up there thinks it’s doing “a real fat burning workout”, but it’s never enough to melt me outta here.

Another thing, keep listening to those experts who say strength training doesn’t burn body fat. Since research shows they’re wrong, if you added strength training to your program, you’d practically need to throw me a going away party!

After each one of those superset workouts you tried last January it felt like someone lit a match under our collective butt. I was burning up down here!

But boy oh boy, I sure was glad you gave that up and went back to just lifting utensils and not dumbells. Otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to celebrate another summer together this year.

Sometimes I wonder, what did you ever do in college without me, your trusted belly fat? Back then, you were probably one of those people that couldn’t wait to get to the beach to show off your body, not like these days.

Nope, stay in the shade and keep the cover-up clothes on, that’s the way to go now. Besides, its a lot closer to the cold beer and the BBQ when you’re sitting in the shade avoiding all the fun down on the beach.

Well, it sure was good catching up with you. I’m sure we’ll be in touch more often, as long as you stay away from that Turbulence Training workout routine.

Brings a tear to my eye whenever I even think about that workout program and all the belly fat it’s burned. Heck, it’s fried more belly fat than a frying pan!

So again, if you want to keep your dear old belly around for another year and another summer, don’t use Turbulence Training - otherwise, its all over pal, and you’ll never see me again.

Belly Fat says, “Don’t use this” ==> http://www.turbulencetraining.com

Your friend and spare tire,

Belly Fat

PS - Seriously, don’t go near that Turbulence Training program unless you want to see me, Thunder Thighs, Manboobs, Jigg Lee Arm Fat, and Luv Handles pack our bags and hit the highway.

It will be a sad farewell, and you’d be stuck with ripped abs, gorgeous glutes, and toned arms, and you know how much attention those guys get from the opposite sex. Who needs it, I say.
